the term ‘Organic’ from fruits to vegetables, herbs to spices and even from
clothes to cleaning products. So what does this Organic mean? Organic means
producing groceries or goods in a natural way, without adding any chemical or
hormonal substances to the plants or trees. Today I am going to talk specific
about Organic Farming.
What is Organic Farming?
According to
USDA Organic Farming is a system which avoids or largely excludes the use of
synthetic inputs. It is becoming quite
popular in USA these days in order to produce Organic Foods. Organic Farming is
not a new concept, it is a revisited old method which our ancestors used to
follow. Organic Farming is pretty popular in India from ancient time. It
is a method of farming system which primarily aimed at cultivating the land and
raising crops in such a way, as to keep the soil alive and in good health by
use of organic wastes (crop, animal and farm wastes, aquatic wastes) and other
biological materials along with beneficial microbes (bio fertilizers) to
release nutrients to crops for increased sustainable production in an ecofriendly
pollution free environment.
Why
- the need of Organic Farming?
The population of the planet is skyrocketing around 7 Billion and
providing food for the world is becoming extremely difficult. The need of the
hour is sustainable cultivation and production of food for all which is
possible only by Organic Farming.

How
we can be part in Organic Farming?
You don’t have to own a land or farm to start Organic
Farming. You can start with baby steps start Organic Gardening in your own
backyard. With a little planning and spending time daily you can create organic
produce in your own home.
Example:
When we moved to our house my father and father-in-law
helped me to start a small vegetable bed; with little planning and proper care
I was able to get fresh some produce from my own garden. Later I have expanded that
bed and added several raised beds now in my garden, today I am able to feed my
family up to 2 months in a year with the fresh produce from my own garden. I
feel proud not only to serve my body and family nutrient food but also to be
part in bringing ecological balance in
nature.
Conclusion:
Organic farming is not a luxury,
it is becoming necessity for our planet. Just by taking part in it we can bring
the balance in eco system. I want everyone to give it a thought and spend
little time and effort towards organic gardening, in order to contribute to
organic farming, which is the only way to give nutrition for our next
generation in a natural way.
